Upcoming PCA Presentation

Kendall and Sydney are going to be showing a short film on Rising Star Outreach at their school this next week on May 28th. They will also be handing out a flyer with the items we are trying to collect to bring with us to India. Items include: blue ballpoint pens, colored markers, colored papers, jump ropes, bean bags and white sticker labels in all shapes.

You might want to make a link to http://www.risingstaroutreach.org/, which looks like the organization you are working with. Very informative website.

I'm curious about the computer situation in the school over there. If they have access to the Internet, it would be really fun to either include the Indian students in this blog at some point, or to start another one for them to blog and for the US students to follow and comment. Of course, Skype would be a dream for cross-planet video conferences or sharing of reports on culture.

The interview I did with the American woman who's working with Indian schools on these kind of Web 2.0 ideas is located at www.classroom20wiki.com/live+conversations. Look for the session with Suchi Grover, and there is a recording there. You can find out more about her at http://www.blogger.com/profile/10853546/.

Steve, while we are over there we will look into what their computer and internet situation is. I know someone who's friend just went over for a couple of months to work with them and thier computer systems. I will let you know what I find out. It would be interesting to find out what the possibility of creating a link between our classrooms in Park City with their's in India. We will find out if that is something they would be interested in, talking online quarterly and hopefully learning and sharing our different experiences with each other. Thanks to you for suggesting the great idea.

Very exciting. Let me know if you need any help. It might be interesting in advance to find out if they have a web cam available to them, or if it might make sense to bring one with you to give them. They're under $100 here, and I don't know what their access to one would be like there. But if they have enough Internet access for Skype video conferencing (and that's a really big if) you'd probably be glad you brought one. I really like the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000. It has a built-in microphone as well which is very good.

Also, feel free to email me or post here when you're in India, and we can figure out what the possibilities are given their computer equipment. Have a great trip.
